Fans had varying reasons to show up at Phoenix International Raceway headquarters in Avondale on Wednesday.
There were Carl Edwards fans. There were Bobby Labonte fans. There were those who are just all-purpose NASCAR fans.
There were retirees. There were those who took the day off and drove a hundred miles or more. One or two called in sick and then looked nervously at the TV cameras recording the promotional event."

Bobby Labonte tackles dirt track racing as an owner
All of that was accomplished on paved tracks. His immediate future as a race team owner, however, will have driver Earl Pearson Jr. tackling dirt tracks from Florida through the Dakotas.
Labonte’s the latest in a long line of NASCAR stars to be bitten by the dirt stock car bug. Last month, he purchased the Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports team from Carlton and Kemp Lamm — a team which was still celebrating its third consecutive national championship with Pearson behind the wheel. The sale ended a six-year collaboration for the Lamms and Pearsons, one which saw them make more than 30 trips to victory lane in the past four years.
It’s a venture for which Labonte seems genuinely more excited than piloting his famed No. 43 Dodge in the Nextel Cup Series for Petty Enterprises.
“Some people think I’m crazy for buying a dirt team, but I look at some of these other guys I race with in Nextel Cup and I’m no different than they are,” Labonte said. “The Nextel Cup thing is so pressured, you need some way to turn it off, and this is how I choose to do it.
“I’m not Tony Stewart or Kenny Schrader or Bill Elliott — I’m not going to be flying off here and there to drive a dirt car. If I get to race one time a year, I’m fine with it. I just wanted to be involved in it.”

Labonte Heads To California Better Than Before
This weekend, Bobby Labonte and the #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge team head to the two-mile California Speedway, located in the city of Fontana, for Sunday’s Auto Club 500. It’s the first race of the season where teams will not have to worry about a ‘plate’ on their engine. In many cases teams feel like this is when the ‘real’ race season starts."

Did you hear the one about Bobby and the Beaver?
By Ryan Smithson, NASCAR.COM
"Someone asked Labonte what he did in the offseason. Usually, a driver will mention vacation or trips to Kentucky and Nashville to test. Labonte had something different, even if this was only one day of his time off. In his words:
"I got up one morning to go do a photo shoot and I noticed a weeping willow down in the backyard, in the pond. So I told my brother-in-law, who was showing up, 'Check that out. I think a beaver got it.'
"I got back that afternoon, and he said, 'You're right, a beaver got it, a guy was here working on your house today, said [to] leave some limbs in the pond, and the beaver will come back tonight and get it.'
"I said, 'All right.' So I got my pistol out and I got my rifle out and I called my nephew with a spotlight, and got back from dinner, we are sitting there. Lo and behold, here comes this beaver coming up the water.
"So..."
Super 8 now official lodging for 43 car
a past Nextel Cup series champion.
“Research has shown that nearly 40 percent of our guests are interested in NASCAR, and our continued association with racing has created a definite preference for the Super 8 brand,” said Zusman. “Investing in this sponsorship is an efficient and effective use of marketing funds.”
As part of the sponsorship, the Super 8 logo will be displayed prominently on the race car, driver and crew team uniforms, team trailers, pit boxes and transporters including merchandise haulers. "
Bobby to race 18 Busch races in 2007 for Kevin Harvick Inc.
Labonte will compete in 18 events, Harvick will take the wheel for five and Davis will run 13 races in the 77 car.
'I'm very pleased to continue KHI's partnership with Dollar General,' said Kevin Harvick, co-owner and CEO of Kevin Harvick Inc. 'Dollar General and KHI share the same visions of growth and success. With Dollar General returning for a second full-time season, it will only build the teamwork and communication we have established.'
'I think this is a great opportunity to race in the NASCAR Busch Series,' said Bobby Labonte. 'Kevin Harvick has a great organization full of good people. The folks at Dollar General have been very supportive of this program and we are all hoping for a lot of success in the races we run together. I know this is a team that is capable of winning races and one that is competitive each time they come to the track. I think that's pretty exciting and we're looking forward to 2007 together.'"

Cheerios Race For Books Program To Help Kids In Need
“Cheerios is proud to announce the Race For Books program in 2007,” said Ricardo Fernandez, marketing manager for Cheerios. “Bobby is a true champion on and off the track. This is another chance to make a difference by earning books for children who need them. We are hoping for a successful 2007 season with the team on the track and making a big difference off the track as well.”
Labonte, a father of two, truly appreciates the importance of getting books to every child possible.
“As a father and professional racer I know how important reading is,” said Labonte. “Reading is a part of life every day. We are looking forward to success on the track in 2007, but now we can be winners off the track, too. I am proud to be associated with Cheerios and First Book. We are going to work as hard as we can to earn as many books as possible.”
This is not the first time that Cheerios, First Book and Labonte have teamed up to get books to kids in need. Labonte and the #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge team earned more than 125,000 books in the final 10 races of 2006. He recorded four top-10 finishes during that stretch."
In-Car audio all season long
You can also go for the big-budget version of Race View and get three virtual cameras showing the race from Bobby's car's point of view, all day long.
